Pandit Abhay Rustum Sopori, the eminent Santoor Maestro & Music Composer, is the present Khalifa of the ancient Santoor tradition of India. A distinguished musician of India, he stands as the custodian of the fabled age-old Sopori – Sufiana Gharana of Kashmir, the 300-year-old traditional Santoor family of India, carrying forward a legacy rooted in Shaivite – Sufi musical tradition. He learnt music from his grandfather late Pandit Shamboo Nath Sopori ji, the Great Master Musician hailed as the ‘Father of Classical Music’ in Jammu and Kashmir, and from his father, the Great Saint Musician Pandit Bhajan Sopori ji, Santoor Legend and Composer, known as the ‘Saint of Santoor’ & the ‘King of Strings’.
