Yelhomie is a rapper, movement builder and independent music entrepreneur from Imphal, Manipur, using hip-hop to bring Northeast India’s realities into wider national and global conversations. Born Thiyam James Luwang, his music explores identity, belonging, discrimination and political neglect, with Manipur central to his perspective. His name comes from “Yelhoumee,” meaning Indigenous people, making representation part of the project itself. Tracks such as Is India My Home?, 2 Sons Of The East and We Outside combine conscious rap with lived experience and regional identity. Beyond his own music, Yelhomie founded Naava Records, an Imphal-based collective supporting young rappers, producers and other creators. Now associated with Mass Appeal India, he continues expanding his reach while building space for Northeast artists.
