Tarang Bamboo Symphony Group

Tarang Bamboo Symphony Group is an Indian musical ensemble built around a remarkable idea: what if an orchestra could be made from bamboo? Led by composer and percussionist Subhasis Sabyasachi, the group creates and performs on bamboo instruments including xylophones, tabla, pakhawaj, dholak, kanjira, sitar, veena and guitar. The project combines music, craftsmanship, research and environmental thinking, exploring bamboo as an alternative to the slow-growing woods traditionally used in instrument-making. The idea grew from Sabyasachi’s work with his guru Brajen Biswas, who developed the Brojo Tarang, a bamboo xylophone. Sabyasachi has since expanded that vision into an entire bamboo orchestra. At Ziro, bamboo leaves the architecture and takes centre stage—turning a familiar material into an extraordinary soundscape.
