Sukhbir, often called the “Prince of Bhangra,” is one of the defining voices of modern Punjabi pop. Born in Punjab and raised in Nairobi, he began recording in the early 1990s before moving to Dubai, where he built an international career blending traditional Bhangra with rap, techno, reggae and global pop influences. His breakthrough came with the 1996 album New Stylee, which won three Channel V Awards, followed by hits including “Gal Ban Gayi,” “Dil Kare,” “Nachle Soniye” and the perennial favourite “Ishq Tera Tadpave.” With dhols and dholaks driving beats built for the dance floor, Sukhbir helped take Bhangra far beyond its traditional boundaries and onto stages around the world.
