Apatani Women Association Ziro (AWAZ) is the apex organisation representing Apatani women in Ziro Valley, Arunachal Pradesh. With thousands of members, the association plays an active role in strengthening women’s participation in community life while supporting the social and cultural traditions of the Apatani people. Its work extends across women’s empowerment, cultural preservation, environmental awareness and community welfare, from campaigns around waste management and the protection of Ziro’s landscape to initiatives addressing gender equality and social issues. At Ziro Festival 2026, AWAZ brings the presence of the valley’s own community onto the Sun Stage, connecting the festival programme directly to the people, traditions and living culture of the place in which it takes place.
