For decades, Shukesh Sukla Badiya has been singing at the same street corner in Dharmanagar, Tripura, keeping the old folk songs of Sylhet alive. Visually challenged and largely unknown beyond his hometown, he has made music his life – busking day after day for anyone who stops to listen. A chance discovery on an old YouTube video brought him to Ziro Festival. A gifted multi-instrumentalist, Shukesh plays the duitara, violin and sarinda, bringing a lifetime of traditional Sylheti folk music with him. Ziro will be his first-ever festival performance. This is one discovery we’re particularly excited about.
