Tribal Rain is a Nepali acoustic experimental band from Sikkim, India, known for their intimate songwriting, atmospheric arrangements and emotionally resonant music. Formed in 2013 by Rahul Rai, Kenneth Adhikari, Prawes Lama and Sushant Ghatani, the band built a devoted following with songs including “Chinta,” “Bhanai” and “Narisawna.” Their debut album, Roka Yo Samay, arrived in 2017, bringing together 11 songs rooted in Nepali language and storytelling. The band’s music carries a distinct sense of place, blending acoustic instrumentation with contemporary songwriting and a deeply personal emotional quality. At the centre of Tribal Rain was Rahul Rai, whose voice and songwriting gave the band its identity. His passing in 2018 marked a profound loss for Sikkim’s independent music community, but the music continues to resonate. Tribal Rain remains a beloved part of the Northeast’s musical story—a reminder that some songs become bigger than the moment in which they were written.
