Phosphenes is an indie band from Kathmandu, Nepal, formed around the songwriting partnership of Abhi Pokhrel and Prajwal Aryal. Since 2016, they have developed a dreamy, genre-fluid sound that moves between indie rock, dream pop, alternative music and folk textures. Their name comes from the sensation of seeing light without an external source—an apt metaphor for music that creates vivid inner worlds. Their 2021 album Sullen Days established their introspective, atmospheric sound, while “Yestai Nai Hola” became a major breakthrough, with its music video crossing two million views. The band was also named Best New Artist at the Hits FM Music Awards in 2022. Now marking a decade of making music together, Phosphenes continue to evolve with their latest album Sleep on the Grass.
